Deaf.bg is an association for the rights and development of deaf people in Bulgaria. Together, we work for a modern, successful and thriving deaf community, with a focus on empowerment, linguistics, education and technology. Our mission is to change public attitudes and elevate the leadership role of deaf people, following the principles in the Charter of the World Federation of the Deaf.
On 21 January 2021, for the first time in Bulgaria, the Bulgarian Sign Language Act (BGSLA)was adopted, which entered into force on 6 February of the same year. It regulates public relations linked to recognizing the Bulgarian sign language as a natural and independent language and respecting the right of deaf and deaf-blind persons to express and receive information through Bulgarian Sign Language (BGSL).
The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities is an international human rights treaty of The United Nations - UN , designed to protect the rights and dignity of people with disabilities. Parties to the convention are required to promote, protect, and ensure the full enjoyment of human rights by persons with disabilities and that persons with disabilities enjoy full equality under the law.
Deaf.bg, a union of Listen Up Foundation, Vzaimno Foundation, the Active Deaf Youth Organisation - ADYO, invests in training deaf specialists through innovative educational programs. They are held with the support of foreign trainers in the field of deaf sciences and sign languages. The programs aim to build deaf professionals who can sustainably create quality resources in sign language, resulting in the full inclusion of deaf people.
