Deaf.bg is an association for the rights and development of deaf people in Bulgaria. Together, we work for a modern, successful and thriving deaf community, with a focus on empowerment, linguistics, education and technology. Our mission is to change public attitudes and elevate the leadership role of deaf people, following the principles in the Charter of the World Federation of the Deaf.
On January 21, 2021, for the first time in Bulgaria, it was adopted Law on the Bulgarian Sign Language (BSL), which entered into force on February 6 of the same year. This law regulates public relations related to the recognition of the Bulgarian sign language as a natural and independent language, and respect for the right of the deaf and deaf-blind persons to express and receive information through Bulgarian Sign Language (BSL).
The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities is an international treaty of The United Nations - UN on human rights, designed to protect the rights and dignity of people with disabilities. Signatories to the convention are required to promote, protect the full exercise of human rights by persons with disabilities and ensure that they enjoy full equality before the law.
Deaf.bg, an amalgamation of the "Listen" Foundation, the Vzaimno Foundation and the Youth Organization of Deaf Activists - MOGA, invests efforts in training deaf specialists through innovative educational programs. They are held with the support of foreign trainers in the field of deaf sciences and sign languages and aim to build deaf professionals who can sustainably create quality resources in sign language, resulting in the full inclusion of deaf people.
Part of our core business is to partner with organizations with similar values and goals. If you see opportunities to work together, contact us.
